We have often heard that marriages are made in heaven. There is that one special person for all of us, with whom we end up spending majority of our life with. Vedic astrology has an answer to all the questions you might have regarding marriage. From which are your favourable planets for marriage yoga in your natal chart, to remedies for removing any negative energy from your married life, Vedic astrology provides you with all the details you will need for a timely, happy, and successful marriage.

The main planet that facilitates marriage is Venus. In everyone's horoscope, the list of auspicious planets include Jupiter (Guru), Venus (Shukra), Mercury (Budh) and Moon. On the other hand, Sun, Saturn (Shani), Mars (Mangal), Rahu and Ketu are considered the inauspicious planets.

This article will give a bird's eye view of various aspects of marriage that Astrology covers to ensure harmony and marital bliss. Certain simple combinations that cover nine aspects of marriage issues will be indicated below.

Traits of good marriage:

When we say a marriage is successful or accomplished, there are certain important things that need to be considered. A combination of all the below mentioned factors is necessary for a harmonious marriage.

  • Good compatibility: For both the bride and groom, compatibility is essential. When both your hobbies and interests match, it becomes the common ground. You find collective interest in what you do and it is these similar interests and compatibility that holds you together for a long time.
  • Mutual understanding: Understanding between couples is extremely important. Good understanding comes from mutual respect and admiration. Both the bride and the groom may be of different temperament and have different traits, but as long as they can accept each other for what they really are, marks the basis for a successful marital relationship.
  • Strong emotional bonding: Emotional bonding comes from respect and love that the couple and the partner have for each other. Physical attraction may fade over time but what stays is the emotional connect. So, it is necessary to have a good emotional bonding with your partner and share their happiness and grief.
  • Good relationship with partner and family: Another important factor, which often takes a back seat, is the relationship with your partner’s family. It is to be noted that marriage is not just between two individuals but two families. Moreover, there needs to be proper working relationship between the two families in order for a marriage to sustain and be happy.

What are the Planetary Combinations and Houses responsible for different parameters of marriage?

When we talk about marriage astrology, many parameters need to be considered. For each parameter to demonstrate success, there are different houses and planets working towards making a match successful or unsuccessful. We will discuss about all the parameters in detail.

Certain simple combinations that cover eight aspects of marriage are indicated below:

  1. Timing of Marriage

Timing of marriage is the time when both the partners come of age and ready to settle down. In India, women need to be above 18 and men above 21 years of age to legally marry. However, all of us get married at different ages. This timing of marriage depends on -

  • Saturn - During transit, Saturn should create a relation with 7th house or 7th lord from Lagna, Moon or 'kalatra' significator Venus (for men) and Jupiter (for women).
  • Jupiter – It needs to be examined whether Jupiter creates a relation by way of conjunction or aspect. Jupiter during transit creates relation with 7th house or 7th lord from Moon or significator Venus (and Jupiter) or lords of their stars.
  1. Delay in Marriage:

Sometimes, even though one is of ripe age, there are often hindrances that create delay in marriage. It could be some malefic influence of planets or simply unfavourable position of stars, which cause these delays. Broadly they can be -

  • When Sun, Rahu and Saturn aspect the 7th lord or occupy the 7th house from Ascendant/Moon, it indicates considerable delay.
  • When Venus, Moon and Saturn are in 7th house, marriage can be delayed up to the age of 30 to 35 years
  1. Spouse

For a successful marriage, the horoscope of both the partners should match. In one’s own horoscope, a certain house depicts the qualities of the spouse that he/she is going to end up with. This is determined by -

  • Marriage to a person in far off place is indicated when Moon is in 7th house and malefic planets occupy 5th and 9th houses from Moon.
  • Early marriage to a partner living nearby can be predicted when Venus occupies 7th house and aspects its own dispositor.
  • If the Sun and Venus are in 5th, 7th or 9th houses, there can be weakness to the limbs of the spouse.
  1. Matching of horoscopes

When two people decide to get married, matching of horoscopes is an extremely important part. It determines if the two partners are made for each other or not and whether they will make a successful match or not.

  • Matching of Guna/Kuta can be done considering the birth star of the boy and girl.
  • If the maximum number of gunas is 36 and a minimum 18, the match is approved as Guna/Kuta compatible.

A happy married life is indicated if

  • The Sun of the girl's chart and the Moon of the boy's chart are 120 degrees apart
  • The Sun of the girl and Moon of the boy interchange their houses
  • The Sun of the girl and Moon of the male aspect each other.

The match is approved if Samasaptama is present

  • Ascendant/Moon/Navamsa of the girl is 7th to the Ascendant of the boy.
  • The running Dasa of the boy and the girl should be mutually friendly
  • There should be no Dasa Sandhi at the time of marriage.
  1. Love Marriage

Love marriage occurs when both the partners mutually decide to go ahead with their relationship and tie the knot. Not everyone has the luxury to choose their partners at their own will. Whether one will have an arranged or a love marriage depends a lot on their planetary combinations in their natal chart.

For a love marriage to be successful,

  • The 5th house and 5th lord, 7th lord, Venus, and Jupiter in both the charts need to be strong.
  • If 7th lord, 5th lord and Venus are strong with benefic aspect/s and are related to each other, it leads to a successful love marriage.

A love marriage can be unsuccessful,

  • If Venus is in 7th in the natal chart and Navamsa.
  • If Venus, Mars and Saturn in 7th or Saturn in 2nd
  1. Marital Separation/Discord/Divorce

The aspect of marriage also includes the process of marital separation and divorce. When a marriage has run its course and it is impossible for both the partners to continue in the relationship, it results in the marriage ending or in a divorce. Whether a person will end up with a divorce or not, could also be found in their horoscope, as follows:

  • Separation is indicated if Mars and Saturn relate to the 7th lord or Venus.
  • Discord is indicated if Mars, Saturn and Venus are together in 8th
  • If Mars and Saturn are in ascendant, it could also still result in separation.
  • Similarly, if Venus is at an angle opposite to Mars and Jupiter, divorce is indicated.
  1. Chances of a Second Marriage

When the first marriage did not work out, there are always chances to remarry or remain unmarried after that. Whether a person is destined for a second marriage, can also be found out through their natal charts. There are strong chances for a second marriage when

  • Moon and Venus conjoin and are strong.
  • 7th lord's Navamsa is debilitated, combusts or is in enemy's house.
  • Venus in 2,5,8,11 sign with Ketu or aspect of Ketu
  • Moon and Saturn are in 7th house.
  1. No Marriage

There can also be a possibility that the native does not marry in their entire life time. They chose to remain single and enjoy life accordingly. Whether or not a native will live a free life or not, can also be determined through their horoscope. A person may never get married -

  • If the Ascendant lord and 7th lord are in 2/12 position.
  • If the Ascendant lord and 7th lord in 6/8 position.
  • If the 7th lord and Sun in 1, 4 ,7 and 10 signs

Conclusion:

Marriage is a sacred institution that imposes equal moral, social, and spiritual responsibility to a husband and wife. The institution of a Hindu marriage includes the Saptapadi or the taking of seven steps by the bridegroom and the bride jointly before the sacred fire. The marriage becomes complete and binding when the seventh step is taken. The bride and the groom vow that they would be true and loyal to each other and would remain companions and friends for a lifetime. The sanctity of the marriage would depend on both the partners and their different astrological combinations that ensure a happy and blissful married life.
